Interns coming to work at Akima may be looking to add a line to their resume or to pick up some additional college credit. They find that they develop practical experience working alongside established professionals in fields ranging from IT to construction management. Our interns are valuable members of the team, and they participate on the projects that help our clients meet their goals. This hands-on approach provides a head start to their careers, and the real world experience they gain complements their studies and develops the skills they need to stand out in competitive job applications. Interns often build lasting relationships with each other and with their teams, many of whom are often more than happy to serve as references for future job opportunities.
An internship with Akima also offers an opportunity to engage with world class business professionals and to observe the way high-level decision makers approach their craft. This invaluable experience can’t be taught in a classroom but our interns experience it on a daily basis. Akima wants to see our interns succeed, and have established programs to help interns make the most of their opportunity. The Akima Lunch Bunch is a weekly lunch meeting with a department or team leader. This offers interns an opportunity to hear more about career paths and useful business skills. The NDC College Support Program is a weekly conference call that provides all NANA interns with additional guidance to help them succeed in their current position, their studies, and their future careers.
Interns come to Akima’s offices from all over the country; for many, it is their first time in their new location. From Colorado Springs to Washington, D.C., our shareholder interns are encouraged to experience all that their surroundings have to offer with group activities and social events. For example, shareholder interns at our headquarters in Herndon (just outside Washington, D.C.), can take in the culture of our nation’s capital. Museums, monuments, and natural wonders await. Guided small group activities make the best of Washington easily accessible. From the steps of the Lincoln Memorial to the depths of the Luray Caverns, our interns can experience all that their new surroundings have to offer.
