Akima Part of Winning Team

Akima Facilities Management, LLC (Akima) was notified that Mission Support Alliance, LLC, of which Akima is a teamed subcontractor, has been selected as the mission support contractor for U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Hanford Site in southeastern Washington State.

The Mission Support Contract (MSC), a cornerstone of the multicontract structure at Hanford, provides services and infrastructure across the Hanford Site. The cost-plus-award-fee contract is valued at approximately $3.059 B over 10 years.

Mission Support Alliance, LLC is a limited liability company formed by Lockheed Martin Integrated Technology, LLC, Jacobs Engineering Group, Inc., and Wackenhut Services, Inc. As one of the 11 committed subcontractors, Akima is expected to provide an estimated $100 M in support services.

The Hanford MSC will provide the cost-effective infrastructure and site services necessary to accomplish the Hanford Site environmental cleanup mission. Scope of the contract includes safety, security and environment, site infrastructure and utilities, site business management, information resources/content management, and portfolio management as the five primary functions.

The 586-square-mile Hanford Site played a vital role in the nation’s defense for more than 40 years, beginning in the late 1940s, with the Manhattan Project. Formerly a plutonium production complex with nine nuclear reactors and associated processing facilities, Hanford is engaged in the world’s largest environmental cleanup project.

Transition of this contract will begin May 2009 and be completed in 90 days. Mission Support Alliance, LLC will assume responsibility following transition.
