Akima (pronounced AH-Ka-Mah) is a name chosen to reflect our corporate culture. In the Iñupiaq language, Akima means “to win” or “winner”. This name expresses our shareholders’ heritage and spirit, as well as Akima’s corporate spirit, demonstrated through our commitment to performance, innovation, quality, employees and clients.
