2011 Summer Interns

"I don't have any plans to where I will end up after I receive my degree, but NANA and its subsidiaries is a priority I look to in finding employment. It has always helped me and I would love to give back to the company and to our people and encourage future shareholders to do the same. NANA has always been a major provider for aid in education and employment; maybe someday I can take up my career somewhere other than Alaska."

Alan Ayauniq Conwell, Jr.
AID: Alexandria, VA

"This internship has been the best experience ever! Working with a lot of different ethnicities, trying all of the different foods from different parts of the world, being brought to their homes and being treated like family. That's what I call "Home away from Home." I would definitely recommend that other NANA shareholders apply for internships because it's a wonderful opportunity! If I could do this again, I absolutely positively would!"

Amber Saumik Harris
AID: Alexandria, VA

"Charlotte is a beautiful city (especially the Ballantyne area where Akima's corporate office is located). During my stay in Charlotte, I was able to experience things that I never knew would happen to me. Some examples are: visits to Daniel Stowe Botanical Gardens; Dave & Busters; Carowinds; and a bowling alley. I was also taught how to drink sweet tea and cold coffee. I had no idea that cold coffee with caramel would become one of my favorite drinks! Thank you very much Akima!"

Richard Nauyaq Reuben
AMS: Charlotte, NC

"What stood out the most to me during my internship was the people, a lot of the workers are very great at their jobs and love doing what they do. The employees were very caring and knowledgeable. This internship allowed me to grow as a person, made me realize that people who sit behind a desk are more than just paper pushers, and they actually work very hard and/or harder than most."

Nancy Asagaq/Ayagaq Westbury
AMS: Charlotte, NC

"I have been an intern with Akima Infrastructure Services, LLC in Hampton, Virginia working on a task order with the U.S. Air Force. I am extremely grateful to have been chosen to represent the NANA region. The business skills that I have learned have helped me realize that there are many opportunities for Inupiaq college students. I hope to be a living testament of hard work and dedication to honor my grandparents."

LaTia Qaanaaq Jackson
AIS: Hampton, VA

"In the summer of 2011, I was honored and blessed to receive an internship with Akima Management Services, LLC. During this internship, I learned about contracts and procurements. I have confidence I could learn about this area of business and I love the challenge of the work."

Christopher Nukipiluk Black
