Herndon, VA – Akima today announced that Akima Logistics Services has been awarded a contract to provide aircraft fuel and base supply services in support of the Very Important Person Special Air Mission (VIPSAM) of the 11th Wing, the 89th Airlift Wing, and the Presidential Airlift Group. This contract includes support to the fleet of 40 aircraft serving the president, vice president, cabinet officers, and a variety of congressional and military officials. The award has a 7-year period of performance and a total contract value of approximately $68 million.
“It is an honor to continue to support the Air Force in the successful execution of one of their most visible and important missions,” said Shannon Carney, General Manager of Akima Logistics Services. “This contract further validates Akima’s proven ability to provide our aviation customers with world-class services in support of their most critical efforts.”
With a combat-ready force of more than 1,100 personnel, the 89th Airlift Wing provides global air mission airlift, logistics, aerial port, and communications for the president, vice president, cabinet members, combatant commanders and other senior military and elected leaders as tasked by the White House, Air Force chief of staff, and Air Mobility Command. The 11th Wing is the host wing for Joint Base Andrews and supports contingency operations in our nation’s capital with immediate response rotary-assets as well as ceremonial support for the United States Air Force Band, Honor Guard, and Air Force Arlington Chaplaincy.
Akima Logistics Services will provide all management, personnel, equipment, tools, vehicles, and materials necessary to perform fuel and supply operations. Work will primarily take place at Joint Base Andrews, as well as other locations as required.
In addition to the work at Joint Base Andrews, Akima Logistics Services also provides aircraft support to the 94th, 98th, and 557th Flying Training Squadrons of the 306th Flying Training Group at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. In April, the company unveiled a new fleet of seven tow plane aircraft that are a key component of Air Force Academy glider operations.
