Barry Smallwood is the group president of Akima’s Emerging Markets Group, a portfolio of companies providing cutting-edge IT services, technology solutions and application development in support of the Department of Defense, Intelligence Community, and federal civilian government customers.
Prior to joining Akima, Barry spent over twelve years at the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), where he led the Office of Special Intelligence System Engineering and Development unit before being promoted to Associate Deputy Assistant Administrator (Chief of Operations, Engineering and Development of the Office of Information Systems). Prior to the DEA, Barry worked in local county government where he provided systems engineering support for IT systems. He began his career in the private sector in 1987 as a systems engineer, designing and supporting field computer systems for a civil engineering firm.
Barry has over twenty-five years of experience in the computer systems engineering field., and he holds a bachelor’s degree in systems engineering from George Mason University.
