Mission-Critical Means Zero Margin for Error
In an emergency, there’s no low, medium, or high risk. There’s either risk, or there isn’t. A 911 call that goes unanswered. A mass warning that never reaches the building. A dispatch system that can’t route responders in time. Each failure is a direct threat to life. Public safety infrastructure at the DoD doesn’t get a second chance to work.
Akima builds, sustains, and modernizes the systems and operations that close the gap. From 911 call routing and mass warning towers to computer aided dispatch and full fire and emergency response services, we operate across the entire public safety ecosystem — for all DoD Services worldwide where mission continuity can’t wait for a commercial solution.
What began as a single sustainment contract with Arnold Air Force Base back in 2014 has grown through deliberate investment and engineering discipline into the DoD’s most comprehensive public safety integration capability. No shortcuts. Just work that proves itself.
Our Services
911 & Emergency Communications Systems
| A dropped 911 call can be a fatal failure. Akima designs, integrates, and sustains the 911 infrastructure that DoD installations depend on, including the NG911 deployment in all of the DoD. Our engineers understand not just the systems themselves, but the complex interoperability requirements across cell infrastructure, dispatch software, state and local networks, and federal compliance mandates that determine whether 911 actually works when it needs to. |
- NG911 design, deployment, and transition
- 911 system engineering, integration, and sustainment
- Interoperability across state, local, and federal networks
- Security hardening and compliance (CISA and FCC NG911 standards)

CONTACT USPublic Safety Systems Integration & Interoperability
The public safety technology market is largely OEM-driven. Vendors sell systems with little accountability for whether those systems work together. Akima operates differently. As a vendor-agnostic integrator, we hold no allegiance to any manufacturer. We recommend the right technology for each environment, engineer true interoperability across multi-vendor systems, and take direct ownership of outcomes. When something breaks, we find the root cause, regardless of whose system it is.
- OEM-neutral integration across mass warning, dispatch, Giant Voice, AVN, and communications systems
- Multi-vendor interoperability engineering
- Root-cause troubleshooting management on behalf of the customer
- Integration of Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) with 911 and field systems

CONTACT USPublic Safety Infrastructure Modernization
Many DoD public safety systems were built decades ago. And replacing them isn’t simple. Limited funding cycles, operational risk during transition, and compliance requirements like NG911 make modernization a precision effort, not a swap. Akima specializes in modernizing aging infrastructure while keeping systems live and operational. Our boots-on-the-ground SMEs have executed modernizations at a pace and scale unmatched across the DoD. We deliver on time and adhere to the originally promised budget.
- NG911 transitions
- CAD modernization
- Giant Voice retrofits and upgrades
- Audio Visual Notification (AVN) / beacon system refresh
- Hybrid cloud architecture pilots
- Tech refresh cycle management
- Security hardening and continuous monitoring

CONTACT USPublic Safety System Sustainment & Operations
24/7 emergency services demand 24/7 support. OEMs can be slow to respond, come with expensive dispatch fees, and pass the problem to someone else. Akima’s sustainment model is built around the opposite: because we engineer the systems we maintain, we know them better than anyone. We troubleshoot faster, at a lower cost, and without deflecting accountability. Our global service desk supports 500+ locations worldwide, including installations in Japan, the UK, and the Pacific. We’re around the clock, every day of the year. We don’t install systems and walk away. We stay.
- Global 24/7 service desk and helpline
- Remote troubleshooting and diagnostics across installations
- Lifecycle sustainment and system monitoring
- Rapid on-site field support
- Continuous security monitoring and hardening
- Lab environments for system testing and readiness validation

CONTACT USEmergency Operations & Command Center Support
Effective emergency response starts with effective dispatch. Akima operates emergency dispatch centers that coordinate fire response, military police, security patrols, and alarm monitoring all under command structure. Our dispatchers manage not only 911 emergency calls, but physical security monitoring, access alerts and notification systems across the installation. Critically, our teams understand how to operate inside complex DoD command-and-control structures where military, civilian, and contractor operations must align seamlessly under pressure.
- 911 emergency dispatch operations
- Military police, security patrol dispatch, and perimeter monitoring
- Alarm and notification system management
- Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) integration and sustainment
- Interoperability across DoD and installation command structures

U.S. Army– Enterprise Public Safety Sustainment
Akima provides mass warning, Giant Voice, AVN, NG911, and Computer-Aided Dispatch sustainment across every U.S. Army installation in the world, including international locations. What began in 2017 as a single software sustainment contract has grown through deliberate investment and engineering credibility, into the Army’s most comprehensive public safety integration capability. Our team supports installations across the U.S., Japan, the UK, and locations only reachable by military cargo aircraft. We have never missed a schedule or exceeded a budget.
Featured Program
U.S. Air Force — NG911
When the Air Force moved to transition its installations to NG911, Akima delivered the first NG911 system integrated with a state Emergency Services IP Network (ESInet). This integration allowed the full capability of the system to be realized. DoD originally estimated a capable company could complete seven or eight sites per year. We are now deploying NG911 across 33+ locations simultaneously — a pace on track to break DoD records for modernization delivery. Akima serves as the NG911 sustainment provider for the U.S. Air Force, and earned that position by outperforming large integrators on both engineering quality and value.

Navy & Marine Corps — Mass Warning Modernization
Akima is actively migrating mass warning software capabilities across the Navy and Marine Corps — expanding public safety integration beyond the Army and Air Force and establishing Akima as the DoD’s cross-service public safety partner.

Arnold Engineering Development Center (AEDC), U.S. Air Force — Full-Service Emergency Operations
At the Arnold Engineering Development Center in Tullahoma, Tennessee, Akima delivers one of the most developed installation services programs in the DoD: full service fire and emergency response, emergency dispatch, installation security, environmental compliance, hazmat operations, canine services, and natural resource management — all under one contract.
The program has been sustained across multiple award cycles, with the Air Force returning to Akima due to consistent performance and deep operational familiarity with the installation’s unique requirements. AEDC sits on approximately 40,000 acres including multiple airfields while bordering an active state highway — making it among the most operationally complex installations in the Air Force portfolio.
